BSc Nursing

Course Objectives:

On completion of the B.Sc. Nursing program, the Nursing graduates will be able to:

1. Utilize critical thinking to synthesize knowledge derived from physical, biological, behavioral sciences, and humanities, in the practice of professional nursing and midwifery.
2. Practice professional nursing and midwifery competently and safely in diverse settings, utilizing caring, critical thinking and therapeutic nursing interventions with individuals, families, populations and communities at any developmental stage and with varied lived health experiences.
3. Provide promotive, preventive and restorative health services in line with national health policies and programs.
4. Integrate professional caring into practice decisions that encompass values, ethical and moral and legal aspects of nursing.
5. Respect the dignity, worth, and uniqueness of self and others.
6. Apply concepts of leadership, autonomy and management to the practice of nursing and midwifery to enhance quality and safety in health care.
7. Utilize the latest knowledge and skills related to information and technology to enhance patient outcomes.
8. Communicate effectively with patients, peers, and all health care providers.
9. Utilize the requisite knowledge, skills and technologies to practice independently and collaboratively with all health professionals applying the principles of safety and quality improvement.
10. Integrate research findings and nursing theory in decision making in evidence-based practice.
11. Accept responsibility and accountability for the effectiveness of one’s own nursing and midwifery practice and professional growth as a learner, clinician and leader.

Outcome statement for B.Sc. Nursing

The B.Sc. Nursing Programme of Kerala University of Health Sciences aims to produce competent, compassionate, ethical, and evidence-based nursing professionals who can provide comprehensive healthcare services to individuals, families, and communities across diverse healthcare settings. Graduates are equipped with clinical expertise, critical thinking, leadership, research aptitude, communication skills, and professional values to contribute effectively to health promotion, disease prevention, patient care, and the advancement of the nursing profession while meeting national and global healthcare needs.

Nursing programme ensures the development of knowledgeable, skilled, and socially responsible nursing graduates capable of delivering safe, quality, patient-centered care, engaging in lifelong learning, and functioning effectively as caregivers, educators, leaders, managers, researchers, and advocates within the healthcare system.”

Admission Criteria for BSc Nursing:

1. Nationality:

Candidates must be Citizens of India / children or dependents of Non-Resident Indians.

2. Academic

• As per the Indian Nursing Council norms, the candidates should have passed +2 class with 50% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry, Biology & English.
• As per the norms of Kerala University of Health Science (KUHS) for admission to B.Sc Nursing, the minimum educational requirements shall be the passing of the Higher Secondary School Certificate Examination (12 years course), or an equivalent course with 12 years of schooling from a recognized board or university with Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) and English with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks.
• Relaxation in marks: The candidates belonging to socially and educationally backward classes (as per G.O. (P) No. 208/66/Edn dated 2.5.1966, G.O. (MS) No.95/08/SCSTDD dated 06.10.2008 and amendments thereof), will have a relaxation of 5% marks in the qualifying examination. They need only 45% marks in Biology and 45% marks in the case of optional subjects put together. The Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes candidates need only a pass in the qualifying examination.
• Every candidate before admission to the course shall submit to the Principal of the Institution a Certificate of Medical Fitness from an authorized Medical Officer with MBBS or higher qualification certifying that the candidate is fit to undergo the course.
• Rounding off of the percentage of marks to the nearest whole number is not permitted.
• Candidates who have passed their qualifying examination from authorities other than the State of Kerala, except CBSE and ICSE, shall produce the certificate of recognition and equivalence of the qualifying examination from Kerala University of Health Sciences/ Directorate of HSE, Kerala.
• The norms of eligibility prescribed by the Indian Nursing Council/ Kerala Nurses & Midwives Council / Kerala University of Health Sciences shall also apply.

3. Age:

• Applicants should complete 17 years of age on or before 31st December 2025.
• No relaxation of age will be allowed.

Seat Distribution:

• Our annual intake is 55
• 50% of the selection of candidates will be by the Government.
• 50 % of the selection of the candidates will be done directly through the College.

Out of 27 management seats, 7 seats are allotted to NRI candidates, 22 for all Christian communities, and the balance of seats under government will be allotted to all other communities.
